The Lighthouse presents: PHŌS_ Our Fire
The ancient Greeks called light φῶς (phōs). It wasn’t just a physical phenomenon, but the very metaphor for revelation: that which emerges from darkness to become visible. From this root, we get philosophy, photography, phosphorus. To think with light, to write with light, to bring light.
But, we have forgotten how. In the ancestral echo of the firelight, humanity forged its first narratives. Today, that fire has grown cold, replaced by the flickering solitude of the personal device.
From September 25th to October 4th, at the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC) in Seville (SPAIN), PHŌS transmutes the very interface of our digital alienation -the LED screen- into a contemporary threshold. A space where the intangible flow materializes into living emanations: light in its purest state, rendered as sensate matter.
Here, the exhibition is a gathering. An insurrection against the cold. We gather before the cold flame of technology to reclaim it: the screen becomes a contemporary bonfire where code -usually a vector of control and consumption- is reprogrammed to orchestrate encounters, an algorithmic empathy. The digital is emancipated from the utilitarian to become a collective pulse, an ephemeral communion of bodies, light, and sound that restores our sense of togetherness.
The invited artists -agoston nagy (collab. curation with Piero and EditArt), Agoria & Johan Lescure, A.L. Crego, cruel, dist.cs, ex_mortal, Joëlle, Kim Asendorf, Philip H. Bell, Psychofuturist, Salawaki, Unruly Unroll, and V5MT- act as techno-shamans, guiding us through these mediated landscapes. Their common gesture is to turn information into presence, the intangible into experience, making digital vastness meet human intimacy.
The luminescence you will face here is not a passive spectacle. It is a raw, almost tangible, element. It is the material from which we will forge a temporary, necessary “We”. A confrontation with the latent power of technology: not to distract or pacify, but to awaken and unite.
PHŌS_ Our Fire is an affirmation that, even in a world saturated by screens, light -and sound- can still be ritual. It can still reveal something essential.
It can still bring us together.
